Associate Pastor for Care
Position Description:
This pastor is responsible for the overall care of the congregation at First Presbyterian Church (FPC) Beaver. We seek an empathetic and compassionate leader who will oversee the ministries that seek to provide support to individuals in times of crisis. This person will embody a love for God's people, a passion for the spiritual well-being of the believer, and be theologically aligned in the reformed tradition.
Relationships and Organization:
Status: Full Time/Exempt
Supervisor: Senior Pastor
Responsible to: Session
Collaborates with: FPC Ministry and Support Staff
Supervises: Board of Deacons while also collaborating with various other committees
Qualifications:
Reflects the love and compassion of Jesus Christ in life and work.
Possesses pastoral gifts and skills in preaching and pastoral care.
Demonstrates servant leadership within Christ-centered relationships.
Is hard working and available for full time work.
Is a consummate team player who puts God, others and organization first.
Is a self-motivated leader who can train and motivate others.
Holds an undergraduate or graduate degree in ministry (or equivalent experience).
Ordained (or ordainable) in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
Master of Divinity from an accredited seminary.
Leadership experience.
Major Responsibilities:
Leading in Ministry of care
Oversee the Care Ministries of FPC along with the Senior Pastor and Deacons by tracking and managing our "Care Spreadsheet".
Manage the "On Call" schedule, ensuring that members who are sick, in the hospital, awaiting or recovering from surgeries are visited or at least contacted by phone for prayer and follow up.
Respond to prayer request emails, compile and revise the prayer list that coincides with the weekly "Pastor's Email" while following up with members to ensure that prayer requests remain current,
updating as necessary.
Work closely with the moderator and clerk of Deacons in addressing needs as they emerge.
Provide counseling for individuals and families in crisis.
Work to refer congregants to trusted therapists and counselors for ongoing support and help.
Leading in the Organization
Attend Staff, Session and pertinent Committee Meetings.
Work with individuals and teams who are envisioning new ministry areas. Help to provide resources and support for launching new initiatives.
Work with local ministerium groups and the presbytery promoting relationships and collaboration with other area churches.
Preaching/Teaching/Pastoral Responsibilities
Preaching and leading worship support under the direction of the Senior Pastor.
Teach and lead adult Sunday school classes, while also providing teaching at other group events as requested.
Ensure that premarital counseling is offered and followed through, and participate in and officiate weddings and funerals as requested.
Additional pastoral duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor and Session.
Personal/Professional Development:
High level of personal accountability in both public ministry and personal sanctification.
Ongoing pursuit of theological education and personal spiritual growth.
